Comic-Con is in full swing and the Saturday Hall H panel with Marvel is the main topic of the convention so far. But has one actor linked to the role of Doctor Strange already shut down any possibility that he would take it?

Speaking with MTV News after the panel for Penguins of Madagascar, Benedict Cumberbatch downplayed any commitment to playing the role of Doctor Strange, but did add that he had some discussion with Marvel.

"As far as I'm aware, even if that was the case, it couldn't work out because I'm doing a little play called Hamlet in London," he said. "So I don't think I could even if that was in the cards. It sounds like a fantastic project. It's a shame if I miss out, but who knows?"

Cumberbatch was sly about making an official statement on the part saying, "I couldn't possibly comment."

He made waves during the panel after Penguins co-star John Malkovich joked that he'd like to play Lois Lane on screen, Cumberbatch answered, "Nurse Normal? Wait for it. Wait for it. Let the penny drop. Ok, that's a joke about Doctor Strange. Batman, I suppose?"

Cumberbatch was a part of a wish-list that included Tom Hardy and Jared Leto. He would be an inspired choice for the role, and would allow him to take over his own possible blockbuster franchise. At this point, it is becoming more and more apparent that Marvel will drop a casting bomb on Saturday, but who knows if Cumberbatch will be on the end of it.

Doctor Strange is directed by Scott Derrickson and set for a 2016 release.
