While it hasn't yet hit theaters for the general public, it looks like more Guardians of the Galaxy could be on the way with one of the staple figures in tow.

Could 'Guardians' Director James Gunn Do A 'Thunderbolts' Movie for Marvel?

On FridayThe Wrap posted a story with writer Nicole Perlman, who wrote the original version of the script prior to Gunn coming on as director, and she said that Gunn would be back to write and direct the sequel to Guardians.

Perlman didn't say anything about her own return.

While Gunn has been adamant about returning for a sequel, he also said that it would all depend on how the film did. But stats have said that Guardians of the Galaxy is expected to make around $60 million in its first weekend, which most likely prompted Marvel to lock up Gunn, who is sure to become a commodity.

"They started to figure it out pretty quick when they started getting the reactions from the audience; it was a very positive reaction," Perlman said. "Of course they would want to make a sequel as long as it does well and people are excited about it, they'll wanna do a sequel. So, it's going to happen."

According to The Wrap, Perlman got the job writing the first film out of Marvel's writers program, which asks scribes to take a crack at adapting a few comics. Perlman chose Guardians because it blended science fiction with humor, and it became her first produced film credit.

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. It hits theaters on August 1.
