It seems like Marvel's latest "risk" could pay off with a solid opening weekend.

'Avengers 2' Thanos Is 'Biggest Piece Of Connective Tissue' For Future Films, Will He Pop Up In 'Age Of Ultron'?

According to The Wrap, Marvel next blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy is tracking to open at $60 million for it's opening weekend on August 1. The film had a $170 production budget and a $60 million opening weekend would be huge.

Opening against the James Brown biopic, Get On Up, the team of lesser known superheroes is the latest gamble by the comic book corporation. Following a team that includes a talking raccoon and a walking tree that says only one phrase, Guardians of the Galaxy is running the risk of being unfamiliar to audiences that are used to Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, or the rest of The Avengers.

Outside of the superheroes being unfamiliar, the film stars Chris Pratt, whose credits to this point include The LEGO Movie and Parks and Recreation, who is also not as famous as other Marvel heroes like Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth or Chris Evans. With a lesser-known cast, the big names will not be the draw for moviegoers; rather, the Marvel brand will be the deciding factor.

Directed by James Gunn from a script by Gunn and Nicole Perlman, the film stars Pratt as Peter Quill or Star-Lord who teams up with a group of criminals, including Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Drax (Dave Bautista) to rid the universe from Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). The film also stars Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio Del Toro, and Josh Brolin as the voice of Thanos.
