Lionsgate is looking for answers when it comes to the massive leak of The Expendables 3 that led to more than 200,000 downloads in 24 hours. Now, it seems as though a federal investigation is going to happen to find those answers.

Final 'Expendables 3' Trailer Offers One Last Tease Of Massive Action

According to Deadline, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement, aka ICE, has picked up the case after Lionsgate made calls to several law-enforcement agencies to ask for help in locating the pirates, who are accused of leaking a full version of the pic on various file-sharing sites last week.

The leak happened on Friday with what Excipio estimates as high as 2 million downloads before it was eventually taken down.

What Does The Torrent Leak Of 'Expendables 3' Mean For Its Box Office Numbers?

In the suit, the studio names file-sharing sites Limetorrents.com, Billionuploads.com, Hulkfile.eu, Played.to, Swantshare.com and Dotsemper.com and claims it sent several letters to each site demanding the movie be removed.

It demands a temporary restraining order, a preliminary injunction and a permanent injunction as well as actual and statutory damages. The first two installments of the franchise have grossed $580M worldwide.

The final Expendables movie is set to be released on August 15 and many find that the leak will affect the box office returns. The film brings back the stars of the previous films with some new additions including Harrison Ford.

The Expendables 3 is written by Sylvester Stallone, Creighton Rothenberger, and Katrin Benedikt with Patrick Hughes directing. Stallone directed the first two installments.
