Speaking with Yahoo on Tuesday, Anthony and Joe Russo talked about where the story was headed in the next film and how it tied into the second film, Winter Soldier.

"The character (Winter Soldier) was invented for an explicitly political purpose. So it's hard to get away from that nature," Anthony said.

Could Captain America Die In 'Avengers 2?'

As for what to expect from the third movie, the Russo brothers were mum on whether a new hero would be taking over the Captain role for Steve Rogers, but they did talk about how the Winter Soldier would tie into the movie and that they would be "bringing some new elements to the table that will give us a twist on Winter Soldier."

As of right now, the plot for Captain America 3 is being kept under wraps, but there have been rumors that Steve Rogers could die and the shield be passed on to either Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) or Bucky Barnes (Sebastain Stan) in a future movie.

On Monday, Mackie talked about being excited for Stan to play Captain America so as of now, it seems like the Winter Soldier could be getting groomed to take over the shield in future movies.

Captain America 3 is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and is slated to hit theaters on May 6, 2016 opposite Batman v. Superman.
