The end is nearing for Mad Men's seventh and final season on AMC.

With the final episodes with beginning in January, as well as the drama's recent Emmy nominations, actor Jon Hamm (Don Draper) sat down at the Los Angeles Times' "Drama Actors Roundtable" (featured below).

In the discussion, moderated by reporter Yvonne Villarreal, Hamm talked about his experience on the series, as well as television as a whole. "Most of every single moment of my character's existence is a frustrating element because it's a series of making poor decisions," claimed Hamm in talking about regrets. He went on to note though that Draper's 'poor decisions' are what make the character so great to play.

"I think we find that a storytelling arc is more interesting when you go left and you should have gone right and then you try to get back to right. That's the point," he insisted.

As for television as a changing medium, no show knows the shifting landscape of TV better than Mad Men, which opened doors for quality programming on networks like AMC. Hamm believes that audiences are "engaging with them [TV shows] in a way that we used to do with movies" and that movies themselves have taken on a different role for viewers. Sometimes these movies work -- he's a huge fan of The Lego Movie, and sometimes they don't. Nonetheless, he believes the "creativity" on television these days is incredible.

At the end of the day, Hamm seems to always want to bring a sense of integrity to his work. "You want to set an example [on set]," he explained, "You don't want to be the person everyone is waiting on."

Mad Men will return to AMC for the remaining episodes of the seventh and final season in early 2015.
