Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) will continue with their complicated relationship in the new season of ABC's Once Upon a Time as they try to figure out how to "make it work."

Frozen Characters Anna & Kristoff Preparing For Their Wedding on Once Upon a Time

O'Donoghue spoke with Entertainment Weekly in a Friday spoiler report where he discussed the Emma-Hook dynamic. He revealed that Season 4 will be picking up where Season 3 left off, which means that they will be trying to figure things out between them.

"The relationship is still very very complicated and they both have to sort of figure out who they are and how they can make it work if they're going to make it work," he said. "Hook is still a pirate at heart even though he very much cares for Emma and really has strong feelings for her, that point being who he is will sort of complicate things. And in the same way, I think with Emma, she's got her own walls that she needs to break down and figure out if she's able to feel again and love again. It's going to be complicated. It's not going to be plain sailing. Excuse the pun. You know what I mean."

Once Upon a Time Emma May Finally Get 'Her Own Place' Away From Charming & Snow

Hook has always been a bit of a bad boy for Emma, and O'Donoghue is suggesting that fans may see more of that side in the coming episodes.

"You might see a little bit of that," O'Donoghue said. "I think people will be happy with his development in this season and they can expect to see a little bit of the pirate back, I think."

In the Season 3 finale, Emma found out that Hook traded his beloved Jolly Roger ship for a magic bean in order to find her in New York. This caused her to kiss him passionately, suggesting that the two characters may finally be fulfilling the desires of the "CaptainSwan" fanbase.

Once Upon a Time Season 4 is set to premiere Sunday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
