Billboard has reported that there is not even a single acoustic guitar heard on her new album, 1989. Radio programmers have stated that they will not be playing Shake It Off in the country stations. One reporter from Nashville even said Swift has not been in the genre of country since 2010's Mean.

Taylor Swift's 'Shake It Off' Video Stirs Major Controversy

The Country Music Association received a backlash from Swift fans when one of their tweets read, "Good luck on your new venture @taylorswift13! We've LOVED watching you grow!" They deleted the tweet when fans received the news that CMA and Swift were parting ways. The vice-president, Damon Whiteside, spoke about the issue to The New Yorker, "C.M.A. removed the congratulatory Taylor Swift tweet when it became apparent that our best intentions were being misinterpreted. C.M.A. is fully supportive of Taylor as she expands her reach as an international superstar."
