While names like Benedict Cumberbatch and Joaquin Phoenix have been linked to the title role, it seems like a television star could be tapped to star as Doctor Strange in the Marvel movie.

Will 'Doctor Strange' Be An Origin Story Or Will He Already Be Established?

According to ThisIsFamous on Monday, Boardwalk Empire and American Hustle star Jack Huston is a name linked with the role of Doctor Strange in the upcoming adaptation by Marvel.

"(Huston) is just the latest name for Kevin Feige to take a look at and marks those Joaquin Phoenix rumors that surfaced prior to this year's Comic-Con as being far from a certainty," the site said.

'Doctor Strange' Will Be A 'Mind-Bending Acid Trip,' According To Marvel Head

"But then again, that's par for the course when it comes to Marvel's handling of this particular character and his coming introduction in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

As for the importance of casting the role of Doctor Strange, the site adds that this is an important project for Marvel head Kevin Feige and it looks like an announcement for who is playing the character could be coming soon.

"Of all the properties that have been incorporated into Marvel's big screen model, Doctor Strange is Feige's baby, and he is handling this project with care to make sure it is about as close to perfect as possible," the site said.

"As a result, him and director Scott Derrickson have been kicking over a lot of rocks, seeing what they may turn up as they look for the ideal candidate."

Huston would be a choice along the lines of Chris Hemsworth or Chris Pratt for Marvel as he is a star who has some work behind him, but is looking for that star-making role, which could come from Doctor Strange. The actor was in the running for Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy but lost to Pratt.

Doctor Strange is set to open in theaters in 2017.
