Boardwalk Empire has officially wrapped its last scene for HBO, and for star Steven Buscemi it was one powerful moment.

Buscemi, who has played the notorious Enoch "Nucky" Thompson for five seasons, shot his last few frames with onscreen wife Kelly Macdonald (Margaret Schroeder).

"Usually I get very distracted by people in my eye-line," Buscemi told The Hollywood Reporter at the big New York season premiere on Wednesday. "But for the very last take, I requested the whole crew to watch. They were all in my eye-line, and I tried to look at each one of them before I turned around and went into the scene."

'Boardwalk Empire' Films Series Finale

Buscemi, who said the last line that will ever be shot for the series, was incredibly moved by that final take. "It was such a beautiful moment," he said.

The actor will miss the show, as well as the character he has spent five years getting to know. "I'll certainly miss his wardrobe. He always looked sharp! There's so much I'll miss about him. He was a very scrappy, intelligent guy. He sort of came from nothing and really made something of himself; He had such grit to him and was able to think on his feet."

Macdonald recalled her last day of filming for the series, which was in the studio. "It was a nice bookend because I was there on the first day of the pilot," she explained, "It started off weird, and then it became like a normal work day, but the end was highly emotional."

As for souvenirs from the series, Macdonald admitted that she didn't take any. "All the boys, however, they're ridiculous!" she noted. "I'm far too polite to ask for everything, but they were live scavengers! Vultures!"

The actress did have some favorite pieces she will miss, however, including one her last costumes. "My favorite outfit is my last outfit," she claimed. "A coral suit in the last episode."

Series creator Terrence Winter believes the end for the prohibition drama is a good one. "I hope they'll feel they've been told a really fun, exciting, emotionally complete story. I hope they'll feel satisfied," he said, "Like when you've closed the past page of a great novel."

Boardwalk Empire returns to HBO for its fifth and final season Sunday, September 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
