Some fans consider it a shame that director Cary Fukunaga, who won True Detective's biggest award at last week's Emmys, won't be returning for season two.

True Detective Scores Summer Release Date For 2015

Unlike the first season, where Fukanaga directed every episode, the crime drama will be utilizing a number of different directors when it returns in 2015. The latest name added to the list is Justin Lin, whom Variety confirmed on Friday would be helming at least a few episodes for the show's second year.

Lin's most recent work includes the new CBS pilot Scorpion, which is scheduled to begin its first season September 22. He is also in talks for the upcoming installment of the "Bourne" films, a franchise which has starred big name actors like Matt Damon (Ocean's 11) and Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker).

Could 'True Detective' Already Have A Secret Cast?

True Detective is set to be back on TV by summer of 2015. Casting second season continues to remain a mystery, though Series creator and writer Nice Pizzolatto has confirmed that the new episodes will take place in California. According to Variety, the story will follow the murder of a corrupt city official and the subsequent investigation into his shady dealings.

The new opening sequence will likely be revealed sometime after the cast is announced. While it's possible the original will be kept, it is unlikely as it contains images of the season one cast, which will not be coming back for the new episodes.

True Detective returns to HBO for its second season in June 2015.
