With a lot of early Guardians of the Galaxy sequel speculation swirling around the possibility that Peter Quill's dad could be showing up in some capacity in the next movie, it seems like the character could also be a villain to face the intergalactic team.

Could A 'Godfather' Star Be Peter Quill's Dad In 'Guardians 2?'

Screen Crush was speculating on possible villains on Friday and had J'Son as the most likely of the possibilities to be featured as the bad guy in the sequel.

"It's unlikely that J'son will be the father of the cinematic Star-Lord, it wouldn't be surprising to see him pop up in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, maybe even acting as a red herring in this whole mystery dad business," the site said.

Director Says More Female Characters On The Way For 'Guardians 2,' But Who Will Show Up?

"Even if all those personal connections are severed, he'd make a good villain - after all, when you come from a planet called 'Spartax,' you probably know how to fight better than most. And if he is Quill's father and they're forced to fight to the death ... Well, that's just good drama."

This isn't the first time that J'Son has been brought up as a possibility for the movie, but director James Gunn has already shot down the character being Quill's dad, but that doesn't rule out being the villain.

It would make for good drama to have Quill thinking his father was J'Son only to have to fight him to the death and find out it was all false. It would also allow the storyline to keep going, but have some sort of revelation to build off of the set-up in the first.

Guardians 2 is set to open in theaters on July 28, 2017.
