It looks like there will be some torturous new episodes ahead for Showtime's literary hit Penny Dreadful.

Changes Coming For 'Penny Dreadful' Season 2

On Friday series producer Christopher King shared a photo from the set on Twitter and the contraption shown looks more than a little painful. "Check out #PennyDreadful new furniture line for Season 2 #thatsgoingtoleaveamark," teased King.

In the picture sits a wooden chair covered in spikes, from the back to the seat to the bottom paneling. It even comes complete with wrist restraints, just in case its occupant gets a little fidgety.

Dorian Gray Hits The 'Penny Dreadful' Set

This is probably King's most revealing hint to date, for up until now most of his behind-the-scenes pics had featured vague, incomplete sets or actors out of costume.

Director James Hawes was also in a sharing mood on Friday, playfully posting a photo of a sign he found on set. "On #PennyDreadful backlot. A silversmith. Hmmm, do you think he sells bullets?" tweeted Hawes. The sign read "BUILDING: F SILVERSMITH".

The joking hint is clearly a reference to werewolves, which are known to be stopped by silver bullets. Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) was revealed to be such a creature during last season's finale, and so the new hint suggests that someone else may be hunting him in the new episodes.

Hawes wasn't done there. Early Monday Hawes toyed with his followers a bit more as he tried to generate enthusiasm for Season 2. "Don't want to get anyone too excited, but calls with Mister Dalton and Ms Green inbound…" wrote the director on Twitter, referring to stars Timothy Dalton (Sir Malcolm) and Eva Green (Vanessa Ives).

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second season in 2015.
