The cast and crew of Penny Dreadful recently sent warm wishes to Harry Treadaway (Victor Frankenstein) to the Showtime star, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, but by Thursday it was all business as filming officially began for Season 2.

Jack The Ripper Could Appear On 'Penny Dreadful'

"We are on set, rehearsed and underway!" tweeted director James Hawes as production began on the premiere episode, which was written by series creator John Logan and currently titled Fresh Hell.

The director also shared on Twitter a photo of the schedule for "day one." While the details were not clearly visble in the slanted shot, Hawes' enthusiasm could not be mistaken. The wait is over and things are finally beginning to pick up speed.

Producer Christopher King was equally as excited to get things going on Thursday. "Hey #Dreadful… and so it begins," he wrote on Twitter, along with a behind-the-scenes pic of the monitor. "First shot of @SHO_Penny Season 2!!! Here we go."

Patti Lupone Joins The Cast Of 'Penny Dreadful' For Season 2

On Wednesday the crew finished prepping for the new season and it seems the change could be felt even in the air. "Shoot begins tomorrow," tweeted Hawes. "There is an electric atmosphere at #PennyDreadful studios. Thrills and nerves."

Both Hawes and King have shared a number of behind the scenes pics over the last few weeks, the images getting more and more tantalizing as the set and props began to take definitive forms. Not much has been revealed about the plot just yet, though skulls and torturous devices suggest dark days ahead for the Victorian supernatural drama.
