With the generation of the new Spider-Man universe with Sony comes the spin-off about one of more famous villains from the franchise, Venom, and one of the writers from the previous movies would be taking over to direct. Now he is saying that this movie will be much darker and different from the others.

'Amazing Spider-Man' Spinoff Movie, 'Venom,' Set For 2017 Release, Could Bring Back Fan Favorite

In an interview with MTV on Wednesday, Alex Kurtzman teased what fans could expect from the spin-off movie and how it differs from the first two movies from the new universe.

"The idea is that you can do things with Venom that you can't do with Spider-Man," Kurtzman said. "Venom is the representation of every line that will get crossed. He's a much darker character."

With Director Taking Over 'The Mummy,' Where Does That Leave 'Venom?'

As for the Spider-Man movies, Kurtzman hopes that they keep true to the character of Peter Parker and allow him to grow throughout the course of the universe's movies.

"I think as long as it keeps staying true to character, and true to who Peter is, and putting him in interesting and complicated situations, it'll survive," Kurtzman said. "Because it's so beloved - everybody loves Spider-Man."

Venom could be an interesting concept as a movie, especially if that includes Carnage coming along because while Venom is bad, Carnage is something even more vile. Kurtzman has a lot of blockbuster experience with writing, but it will be interesting if he can translate those skills to directing.

Venom has no set release date with Kurtzman starting his new monster universe with Universal soon with the release of The Mummy reboot.
