He's only leaving the culture he grew up immersed in now, but new Breaking Amish star Matthias may already be hinting he won't come back to the life he knows.

Miriam Heads To Brooklyn To Do Something 'Better' For Her Son

The 22-year-old, who is one of five new young adults leaving their Amish cultures behind for adventures as an English person in Brooklyn, N.Y., had a rough time growing up Amish because he was adopted into his family-and his true heritage has left him with darker skin, a rarity amongst the Amish.

"I was adopted into an Amish culture, you know, they don't see very many brown Amish people," he said in a preview clip ahead of the new season's premiere. "My parents and I don't really talk about me being adopted. All I know is I was born in Bulgaria, and supposedly my mother was a prostitute, so at 10 days old they put me in the orphanage, and at four years old, my Amish parents adopted me."

Vonda Has A Huge Secret

And despite his parents being loving enough to accept a non-biological child into their home, he claims his life growing up was still difficult because the rest of the community had a hard time accepting him, and continually insulted him for looking different.

"Growing up Amish, being adopted and stuff, I really had to grow a pair and thick skin, because I wouldn't be here if I didn't," he said. "As soon as I was adopted into it there was already church people making remarks, like 'the little Brown Amish boy.' And then, as I grew older, they'd say nice things in front of me, but behind my back, they're just two-faced. They're nothing but two-faced, the Amish."

However, despite his troubles, Matthias found some solace in music, something he plans to pursue while living in Brooklyn.

"Music to the Amish is really, really vain. They'd say its cheap thrills, but for me, it makes me feel good, it makes me feel like a man," he said. "The reason that I got into music was because it was the only thing I had to lean on to, the only thing that made me feel like I'm actually worth something."

Breaking Amish season three premieres Thursday, September 18 at 10 p.m. on TLC.
