Matthew McConaughey recently visited his old college - the University of Texas - to give some motivation to the school’s football team.

The 44-year-old Texas native attended a Longhorns practice last week and a video of the Oscar winner was posted on the school’s official YouTube page on Wednesday. The young athletes surrounded McConaughey and listened to him preach about working hard.

“I found that when I’ve done my best work as an actor, it was only when I pushed myself to be better than I even thought I could be and I got a pretty high idea of how good I could be. I’m pretty self confident with how good I could be, but I didn’t do my best work – and I still don’t think I’ve done my best work – until I pushed myself further than even I think I could be,” he said.

He continued, “Ask yourself why you are you playing the game? And in there you’re going to find the answer of why you play it, whether you win or whether you lose.”

McConaughey also insisted that each player play to only make themselves proud. “At the end of the day every single one of you is really only got to be playing for one person. And, I’ll tell you what it does get, man. It gets a whole lot more fun because you do well, you feel it.”
