The actress has already been in some scenes in the role before, which were cut due to scheduling reasons, but is there a way for Shailene Woodley to come back as Mary Jane Watson in the next Spider-Man movie? With recent scheduling shifts, it could still happen.

Is The 'Sinister Six' Setting Up For The Demise Of Spider-Man In His Third Solo Movie?

Woodley left the role after filming a short scene for director Marc Webb for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 due to her taking over her own franchise with Divergent. But with the sequels to be concluded in 2017, with her most likely done with filming by 2016, it could mean a return to Spider-Man.

While it isn't a franchise she is running herself, Woodley has already had that tested on her and could be like Jennifer Lawrence in X-Men where she comes to join Spider-Man because it will pay good and she doesn't have to do the heavy lifting. Not to mention she now has name recognition due to Divergent.

Spider-Man Side Character Getting Her Own Series From Marvel?

It also would give the actress a chance to take on the role that she was initially expected to have in the second movie with a much more screen time than before. Not to mention it puts her in a franchise that is assured more money than the Divergent franchise makes.

With other names like Anna Kendrick and a return of Emma Stone possible, it would seem like Woodley would make sense to just come back with filming done with the Divergent sequels and a hefty paycheck with a superhero franchise.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is set to open in 2018.
