The Blacklist's 'Red' Reddington may be fiercely protective of Liz Keen, but he has an odd way of showing it.

The master criminal came into the FBI profiler's life on to turn it upside down, and ever since his arrival, Liz has been in more danger than ever. According to actor James Spader, Red sees a little of himself in Liz - his ability to handle himself in the most deadly and unpredictable of circumstances.

"Even though he is very protective of her, he has put her in the greatest jeopardy of her life to date," Spader told Digital Spy. "He's willing to put her in the most dire circumstances, I think because of a presumption on his part that she's up to it. She's somebody who - not unlike himself - is very functional in the most dire of circumstances."

Liz Keen grew over the series first season, and the agent may continue to become more and more like Red as season 2 progresses.

"Liz has always been sort of on her heels, she's always been doe eyed compared, obviously, to Red," series creator Jon Bokenkamp explained on an episode of Beyond the Blacklist. "So where starting to see a bit of that transformation - what is she willing to do, how far is she willing to go...Her becoming, and moving, a bit into the darkness is where she may be going."
