In the women's all-around individual finals, Aly Raisman was left in the dust as fellow American competitor Gabby Douglas won the gold and Raisman came out in fourth place after a tiebreaker ruled against her.

She came in fourth behind Douglas, Viktoria Komova and Aliya Mustafina.

Mustafina and Raisman tied through the four events, which led to the competition's tiebreaker that Mustafina won.

The tiebreaker is the top three scores of each athlete added onto the tiebreaking score, according to the Bleacher Report. The two athletes each received a total cumulated score of 59.566 after the four events- vault, bars, beam and floor.

Raisman scored a 15.900 on the vault, 14.333 on the bars, 14.200 on the beam and 15.133 on the floor; Mustafina earned a 15.233 on the vault, 16.100 on the bars, 13.633 on the beam and 14.600 on the floor.

Raisman's tiebreaking score, a combination of her three best scores that day, was 45.366 but Mustafina earned a bit more, getting her the bronze medal, with 45.933.

According to The Bleacher Report, there are different ways to deal with a tie between athletes and when it came to gymnasts Raisman and Mustafina, the Olympic Games committee decided to give the bronze medal to Mustafina who won the best of three out of four, though that might not have been the most fair decision made.

"The only way to truly fix this situation is to have duplicate medals for the spot that there is a tie," they reported. "The Olympics are about representing your country. They are about achieving success and earning a medal. Two young women earned a bronze medal in the women's all around in London. It's unfortunate that just one of them will be going home with one."
