Ross, who is also known for being Ashlee Simpson's new boyfriend, and Moore took the roles due to family as both actors said their relatives were excited to see them in the roles within this universe.

"My mom [Motown legend Diana Ross] was like, 'I read the books! you'd better do that movie,'" Ross said.

"I didn't have anything to read on vacation, so I picked up their Hunger Games books and ended up tearing through all of them," Moore recalled. "I was like, 'Who's playing Coin in the movie?!' I wanted to create the political arc for her. So really, my kids are responsible for me doing this."

As for Henson, he was happy to be working with Jennifer Lawrence. "Thank God I didn't have lines," he joked. "Jen Lawrence is so captivating, I would have screwed up if I had to speak!"

Ali knew that his character was crucial in the dynamic between Katniss and Peeta and saw a father figure within the role. "He's critically involved in Peeta's rescue, and for Katniss, he's both a protector and father figure."
