Gabby Douglas fell in her women's balance beam final event Tuesday to end her hopes of capturing a third gold medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games. It was a disappointing end to her Olympics but should not take away from the amazing achievements of her first week, which saw her claim two golds.

The balance beam final was a toughly contested contest and Gabby Douglas was always going to have to give a top performance to beat her competitors. But it wasn't meant to be, and just like Monday in the uneven bars Douglas lost her concentration and made a big mistake to see her chances fall apart.

The audience gasped as Douglas landed following a leap with her right foot missing the beam, causing her to fall and cling onto the beam so as not to fall completely off.

She ended finishing in seventh place with a disappointing score of 13.6.

China's Deng Linlin and Sui Lu took the gold and silver medals respectively at the Women's Beam final. Team USA's Aly Raisman won the bronze.

Yesterday, Douglas also made a big mistake at the uneven bars that put her in last place.

In an interview with reporters, Douglas admitted that she has felt drained in the second week of the Games following her amazing exploits in week one.

"My mind was there but it wasn't there like it was for the all-around finals and team finals,'' Douglas said. "I'm not going to lie. It was hard to regain your focus. You get so drained. My mind wasn't mentally there.''

Douglas became the first African American gymnast to ever win the all-around women's title, which is considered to be the most coveted medal in gymnastics at the Olympics Games. She also managed to win the team event with her Team USA fab five, after a spectacular team performance.

On other news Raisman also won the gold medal at the Woman's Floor exercise Tuesday after a fantastic performance, ending her Olympics experience perfectly and closing the gymnastic events of the Olympics.
