Oscar Pistorius is currently serving time for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day last year, but the prosecution apparently wants to appeal the verdict and sentence that was concluded on Oct. 21.

FOX Sports reported on Tuesday that the prosecution moved to appeal the verdict and sentence in his murder trial that concluded last month.

Pistorius' lawyers believe that Judge Thokozile Masipa should not refer the Olympic runner's case to South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal because there has been no error in law.

His defense lawyers' paperwork was filed Monday according to a court stamp.

Judge Masipa found Pistorius not guilty of murder, but guilty of culpable homicide for shooting girlfriend Steenkamp through the bathroom's door. Culpable homicide is defined as "the unlawful negligent killing of a human being" as seen on ISS Africa. Murder on the other hand is the intentional killing, which Judge Masipa ruled against.

Judge Masipa therefore convicted him on a lesser charge of manslaughter and sentenced him to five years in prison.

Pistorius' defense team said Judge Masipa "correctly applied" the law when she cleared him of murder.

If the appeal occurs, Steenkamp's family will definitely be delighted since her mother June believes Pistorius' story about what happened the night her daughter died is a lie.

June recently released a memoir, Reeva: A Mother's Story, that details what she thinks happened the night she lost her daughter forever. She said in her memoir that "Not one of his actions suggests he felt protective towards her."

Below you can watch a video posted in April by TVRuckus of Reeva's parents exclusively speaking out about the death of their daughter and what Pistorius did.
