After she kept her initial response via her show very short and sweet, she opened up about her thoughts Monday.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Williams said in a new interview, "As a black woman, I was proud to show that Aaliyah came from a two-parent family, which many of us don't."

She went on to say that she enjoyed how the biopic portrayed then 15-year-old Aaliyah's relationship with R. Kelly when the two reportedly tied the knot. He was 28. She pointed out the film did not display Aaliyah's tragic death in a plane crash.

"[It was] painted in a more tasteful light than perhaps others would, and I think it was extremely tasteful not to show her going down in a fiery wreck."

The television talk show host, who led the movie as Executive Producer, added that facing backlash was a given considering Aaliyah was extremely loved by her fanbase when she passed and still is today.

"I think when you do a movie about people's favorite, whoever that favorite is, people are always going to have some criticism. You really can't win for losing, kind of sort of."

The film was hit with disadvantages as Aaliyah's family (particularly her parents and brother) did not back the film. They also could not use her music at all and actress Zendaya Coleman dropped out before Alexandra Shipp took on the lead role as Aaliyah.

Williams also made it clear that Angela Bassett has undergone criticism as she is directing the Whitney Houston biopic. That will air on Lifetime as well.
