True Detective fans were disappointed this fall when the HBO crime drama lost out in most of the major categories at the 2014 Emmy Awards, but this January the series could get a second shot at nabbing a best drama award.

'True Detective' Director's New Project More Challenging Than HBO Series

On Monday Variety announced the television nominees for the 2015 Producers Guild Awards, with True Detective scoring a nod in the drama series category.

The competition will be fierce, and while the hit has a good chance nothing it set in stone. This is especially the case given that the series will be up against the final season of AMC's Breaking Bad.

'Castle' Actor Joins The Cast Of 'True Detective' For Season 2

True Detective had been nominated under many of the major categories at the Emmys this fall, including two acting nods, as well as directing and Best Drama Series. Many viewers were surprised when Matthew McConaughey, considered a guarantee for his portrayed of True Detective's Rust Cohle, lost out.

By the end of the night the series ended up walking away with one win for Best Directing, an award which went to Cary Fukunaga. Sadly, Fukunaga will not be returning for the show's second season.

Breaking Bad, which dominated at the Emmys, is also a nominee at the Producers Guild Awards, which means AMC and HBO could be fighting for the win.

The 2015 Producers Guild Awards will take place in Los Angeles on Jan. 24, 2015.

True Detective returns to HBO for a second season mid-2015.
