The trailer for Lifetime's Whitney Houston biopic Whitney has been released and fans could not help but compare it to the Aaliyah movie Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, which the network got lots of backlash for.

In the clip actress Yaya DaCosta channels her inner Whitney Houston as it features her controversial marriage to R&B crooner Bobby Brown and struggle with drug addiction.

While the trailer looks very promising, fans took their Twitter to express they would not support the film after the Aaliyah movie was subject to overwhelming criticism from fans.

A fan tweeted, "I refuse to watch he Whitney Biopic....not after what @lifetimetv did to Rachel and Aaliyah..." as another wrote, "I hope the whitney movie doesn't turn out bad like the Aaliyah movie..."

A third fan suggested that the Aaliyah movie was not given nearly any of the same resources as Whitney.

"After watching the trailer it's clear that Lifetime spent their entire annual budget on The Whitney movie n pinched pennies w/ The Aaliyah".

Still, considering iconic actress Angela Bassett led the film as director, some Houston fans revealed they are willing to give the film a try.

One wrote, "Whitney biopic looks like it might have some potential. I'll take anything after that Aaliyah biopic.."

Another added, "that Whitney documentary looks really good but after all that Aaliyah rave, I'm not sure..but Angela Bassett is the director. I have hope."

Another commented, "Angela Bassett directed it so I know she won't do Whitney how wendy and them did Aaliyah."
