After months of dodging questions and rumor inquiries, Benedict Cumberbatch has finally been unveiled as the pick for Doctor Strange at Marvel. But what does the actor have to say about finally being confirmed to the role that he has been rumored to have for weeks now?
Speaking with Hey U Guys on Sunday at the British Independent Film Awards, Cumberbatch talked about his initial reaction to the role and getting the part.
"It's exciting, really exciting," the actor said. "It's a thrilling gig to get - I just can't wait, there's still a lot of work to do."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cumberbatch added that he was "excited, really excited" to play the Marvel sorcerer but said he couldn't provide more details about the film. He pointed out that he had a lot of work ahead of him on the project.
It was a long road for the actor as he nabbed the part of interested names like Ryan Gosling, Colin Farrell, and Ethan Hawke. With his star continuing to rise, it seems like Marvel wanted to jump on it and help the British star go to the top of Hollywood with this role.
As for the work, Cumberbatch said that he was unsure when it would start, but speculation has pegged an appearance or cameo in either Avengers: Age of Ultron or Captain America: Civil War as possibilities for the character.
After that, he will join director Scott Derrickson as the two prepare for the 2017 release date as the unveil the character for his first solo film.
