While many Batman fans are anticipating Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, one former Batman actor gave some closure to fans wondering about the ending of the most recent film.

'Batman v Superman' News: How Jeremy Irons' Alfred Is Different From Past Bruce Wayne Butlers

Christian Bale, who played Batman/Bruce Wayne in the Dark Knight trilogy was asked a question at the Sirius XM Town Hall recently about the ending of 2012's The Dark Knight Rises.

When asked if Alfred (Michael Caine) approached Bruce at the end when the latter was sitting with Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) at the cafe, Bale offered his own personal opinion.

Iconic Batman Character Will Reportedly Be Dead in 'Batman v Superman'

"He was just content with me being alive and left because that was always the life that he wanted for him and I found it very interesting," Bale said, "and I think that with most films I tend to always say it's what the audience thinks it is."

The ending was ambiguous enough that some even speculated that Batman/Bruce died and the cafe scene was just a dream sequence, but Bale doesn't think this was the case.

"My personal opinion is no, it was not a dream - that that was for real and he was just delighted that finally he had freed himself from the privilege but ultimately the burden of being Bruce Wayne," Bale concluded.

Meanwhile, it has been all but confirmed that the Batman seen in Batman v Superman is rebooted, not being a continuation of Bale's version of the character. It remains to be seen how Affleck's version of the character differs from Bale's, though some are probably hoping for the iconic superhero's voice to be a lot less gravelly.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled for release in theaters on March 25, 2016.
