Native American tribes now have the opportunity for a new and lucrative business venture.

The 556 federally recognized tribes are allowed to sell and grow marijuana on their lands as long they follow the same rules as the states that have legalized it, the U.S. Justice Department said Thursday.

The tribes basically now have the power to set the rules for the weed distribution on their lands, but they are forbidden from selling it to minors and they also cannot bring it to areas where it’s not legal.

"If tribes can balance all the potential social issues, it could be a really huge opportunity," Seattle attorney Anthony Broadman told the Associated Press.

Although marijuana is illegal, it has been legalized in 23 states for medical use. Marijuana is legal for recreational use in Washington and Colorado. In 2015, the drug will also become legal for recreational use in Alaska and Oregon.
