As Jason Clay Dunn prepares for the season finale of Ink Master: Rivals, he revealed a moment that took place in the competition that didn't affect him as much as some may have expected.

Ty'Eesha Reels Says Which Artist She Wants To Win 'Ink Master'

On Monday, International Business Times posted an interview with the tattoo artist who actually saw the glass half full when it came to the surprise twist that the contestants would have a style assigned to them by their rivals.

"I remember mentioning to them before that I hate doing new school," Dunn said. "I think it just works in my benefit, honestly."

Dunn pointed out that new school style started "coming out and getting invented" during the 90's, loosely around the same time when he started doing tattoos. Despite what others may have thought, this is something that the artist does not find to be intimidating.

"They think that I don't have the skills to do [new school] well," Dunn said. "It worked to my advantage. I do, it's just that I don't like to do it. I flipped the script on them, and pushed them."

The artist then mentioned the reason why he assigned his competitors (Erik Siuda and Cleen Rock One) color realism- to give them a real challenge.

"I think there [are] only a handful of artists out there that can really, truly capture color realism," Dunn explained. "And neither of them are that. And in that regard I stand out alone on my own anyway. If you have two guys going at it with color realism they're probably going to end up doing something similar in choice or whatever. Then mine's going to stand out that much more."

The Ink Master Season 5 finale airs on Tuesday, December 16 at 10 p.m. ET on Spike TV.
