Lifetime needs to redeem itself after the atrocity that was "Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B." Even with the continued assurance of an "impressive" film from talk show host and executive producer, Wendy Williams, without the rights to Aaliyah's music, the project failed miserably in the eyes of many who watched the TV movie. But, this time around, things are looking up in the biopic arena as the network looks to make up their past mistakes with the love story of Whitney Houston.

5 Reasons Why The Whitney Houston Biopic Will Be Better Than Aaliyah's

For one, they have rights to her music and in this new clip, actress and former America's Next Top Model contestant Yaya DaCosta has certainly studied the late vocal powerhouse. From her mannerisms to the bulging neck veins that popped out as she would hit her high notes, the new clip shows that Yaya took this role seriously.

Wendy Williams Still Wants to Produce More Movies After Aaliyah Fail

The short 56 second clip shows Yaya in the studio recording Houston's hit, "I'm Your Baby Tonight," with producers jamming along to her flawless vocals. All of the songs in the film have been re-recorded by singing sensation Deborah Cox and sound eerily similar to the original music. Still, she admitted that she felt the pressure while recording the music to Billboard. "I knew I had some big shoes to fill," says Cox. "But I did the job that was supposed to be done."

"Whitney" airs on Lifetime on January 17 at 8/7c.
