Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden have released their first statement as a married couple.

Following their top-secret wedding ceremony, the actress and her Good Charolotte rocker husband have confirmed they were married on Monday after eight months of dating.

Diaz and Madden "were married [Monday] evening in an intimate ceremony at their home in Los Angeles," a rep for the couple confirmed to PEOPLE Magazine on Tuesday. "We couldn't be happier to begin our new journey together surrounded by our closest family and friends," added the newlyweds.

Diaz and Madden began dating in May and became engaged just before Christmas. According to Nicole Richie, the wife of Madden's twin brother Joel, she is the one who set Diaz up with Madden.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Richie told Cohen, "I approve of anything that's going to make Benji happy. I am a devoted sister-in-law. I'm happy for anyone who is happy, and I want everyone to be surrounded with love."

Not surprisingly, Richie, as well as her husband Joel, played a huge role in the Diaz/Madden wedding. Over the weekend, the two couples, along with Drew Barrymore and a few other friends, enjoyed a rehearsal dinner. On Monday, Joel arrived to the couple's home in the early afternoon to help prepare, and Richie served as a bridesmaid.

Richie and Joel's son, Sparrow, served as the couple's ring bearer.
