After five seasons of beloved characters and suspense, NBC has decided to cancel the hit show Covert Affairs.

Executive Producers Talk Whether 'Covert Affairs' Has Been Renewed For A Sixth Season

The Hollywood Reporter reported on Tuesday that the NBCUniversal-owned show has opted to cancel the drama that stars Piper Perabo and Christopher Gorham.

Sources told the publication that the renewal was a "business decision," that depended greatly on the show's live-plus-same-day ratings. The show usually has an average of 5 million total viewers in ratings, but in November, it hit an all-time low of 1.5 million, which is apparently not enough to justify the continuation of the show.

Unfortunately for viewers, season five ended with the cliffhanger of Annie considering a marriage proposal and Auggie's plan to leave the CIA.

After the conclusion of season five, producers told TV Line that they "wouldn't be happy" if the series ended after that season, and they didn't know when they would find out if the show would be renewed.

"No, we wouldn't be happy. We want the show to continue. We're very proud of this finale. So at least we feel if we didn't come back, we'd be going out on a high note. We don't really like to think about it in those terms," Ord said.

USA's decision to cancel the show comes after the recent television addition of Mr. Robot and the continuation of Graceland, Royal Pains, Suits, Benched and Playing House.
