True Detective just might be going for a more documentary feel on HBO this year.

How Social Media Is Hurting 'True Detective'

On Wednesday a Danish news site called The Local announced that documentary filmmaker Janus Metz will be helming an episode of the HBO series.

In 2014 HBO announced that True Detective would have multiple directors to replace Cary Fukunaga for its second season. The Danish director is only the second to be tied to the series, with Justin Lin of Fast and Furious fame already set to direct one of the early episodes.

Why 'True Detective' Might Benefit From A Longer Season

Apparently Metz met the crime drama's creator, Nic Pizzolatto, during a screening of the series in Denmark at the home of Rufus Gifford, the United States Ambassador. The hiring of Metz could be to style the series like a documentary, which would help to distinguish it from the first season and solidify it as its own story. Considering that Pizzolatto's writing has such a specific style that the series might benefit from some different direction.

HBO has yet to confirm or deny the announcement regarding Metz's involvement.

The second season of True Detective will surround the events following the murder of a California city manager. It will star Vince Vaughn (career criminal Frank Semyon), Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro), Rachel McAdams (Detective Ani Bezzerides), and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh). As with season one, Pizzolatto will write all of the episodes.

True Detective returns on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
