Kevin Spacey finally won a Golden Globe award for best actor in a television drama series for his portrayal of Frank Underwood on House of Cards.

The ceremony took place on the evening of January 11.

Previously, the actor had jokingly suggested that he might not attend the awards ceremony this time around to better his chances at a win.

Spacey tweeted about his nomination for the Netflix series, joking about how he hadn't won awards over the last eight times he was nominated because he attended the ceremony and maybe not going this time would make a difference this time around.

"I jinxed the last 7 #GoldenGlobes noms by showing up, should I sit 8 out in hopes that works? To better odds! #HouseofCards @RealRobinWright," he tweeted on December 11.

House of Cards is in the race for some crucial wins at the Globes.

The Netflix political drama was nominated in three important categories which included, best actor in a drama, best actress in a drama, and best drama.

On December 12, showrunner Willimon congratulated his team on the nominations via Twitter:

"So proud of @KevinSpacey @RealRobinWright & the whole @HouseofCards team for the 3@GoldenGlobes noms! @netflix"

The third season will premiere on February 27, 2015.
