This week Penny Dreadful went all out to film a lavish, elegant gathering at the home of Dorian Gray.

While Dorian (Reeve Carney) has never turned away company, the high society members featured in the photos, posted by director James Hawes on Twitter Wednesday, seem strange. They don't look like the type of people Dorian generally prefers to surround himself with.

Dorian tends to seek out less mainstream company in his ever-lasting pursuit of new and unique experiences. Perhaps Dorian has toned down his radical tastes to woo a new man or woman? The floral theme throughout his home is reminiscent of his time at the gardens with Vanessa Ives (Eva Green), so it's also possible that he had her in mind when decorating for the event. Is he trying to win her back?

Unaccustomed to rejection, Dorian wasn't sure what to do when Vanessa turned him away at the end of season 1. She had her reasons for breaking things off, though she refused to reveal the full extent of her demonic possession to Dorian. It's possible he might try to fight for her, though she will have some competition as Dorian gets a new love interest this season.

Penny Dreadful returns on Showtime for a second season in 2015.
