Nickelback's Chad Kroeger hasn't been tuned into the world's shock over his now three-week long engagement with Avril Lavigne.

"I try not to take too much interest in the world's opinion of our relationship," Kroeger, 37, told People magazine. "I just know the both of us are very happy."

Lavigne, 27, and Kroeger met earlier this year while collaborating on music for her fifth upcoming album. Their professional relationship developed into something more during the summer and the pair began dating on July 1, which also happens to be a special day for both Canadian musicians.

"We think it's very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day," Kroeger said to People. "We can't wait to start our life together."

Although the couple has not announced a wedding date, they don't seem to be slowing down their careers. Kroeger will be on the road this month for a European tour with Daughtry, but he admitted that he doesn't want to be away from his wife-to-be for too long. Lavigne, however, will be promoting her new album.

"She'll come over and spend some time [with me] when she's got time," said Kroeger, who added that they're working on balancing their music careers with impending married life. "They're going to throw a lot of stuff on her plate with the new record."

In a HELLO! Canada magazine interview, the couple opened about their Aug. 8 proposal and relationship.

"I knew I was falling for her," Kroeger said of working with Lavigne. "It was incredibly powerful and something I'll never forget."

Lavigne also gushed about her fiancé.

"He makes me laugh every day," Lavigne said. "He takes care of me in every way and is extremely attentive."
