Paul Bettany's character is proving to be the most elusive piece of Joss Whedon's superhero puzzle. Marvel Studios dropped the first TV spot for Avengers 2 on Thursday, but the brilliantly colored hero failed to appear once more (see video below).

An advancement of Tony Stark's JARVIS AI, the Vision's role in the battle against Ultron remains shrouded in mystery.

Josh Whedon Says Heroes 'Must Die' In 'Avengers 2', Sides With Ultron

"Programmed by the combined geniuses of Tony Stark and Bruce Banner and imparted with the ability to fly, project intense energy beams and change the density of his form, the Vision has proved himself a worthy hero, aiding the Avengers in their struggle against the evil A.I. Ultron," teased a leak trading card according to io9.

Even other members of the cast have yet to see the Vision in his full form.

"I haven't seen him," actor Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) told The Hollywood Reporter. "I kind of keep my head turned away from all of that so I can be surprised when I see the movie. Obviously I saw Paul Bettany in person as the character, but then they do the visual effects and all that sort of stuff. It will be a surprise to everybody in the movie - Ultron as well as Vision, because those characters were so much generated stuff."
