Carter further explained, "She has to deal with these men [Goggins' character and Timothy Olyphant's character] differently," adding, "They're very different men in this world, and they're very different men as actors. I realized very early on that they had very different ideas of this whole journey for Ava and for themselves this last season. At first I was a little unsure what to do with it, and then I realized, 'No, this [dilemma] is Ava's new experience,' so I embraced it and it's been wonderful."

She also dished on working with Goggins over the years on set.

She revealed he has taught her so much, including "To take risks, big ones. In every scene, every take. We'd mix it up - 'OK, we got that, let's try something else.'"

"Both of the men, actually, have been so generous to drive me further, to ask for more. I was very lucky," Carter divulged.

Justified is airing now on FX at 10 p.m. ET on Tuesdays.
