The first image of Coach Beiste (Dot-Marie Jones) from Fox's Glee after her transition into a man has been revealed, and some of her costars don't even recognize the actress.

Coach Beiste announced to Sam (Chord Overstreet) and Sue (Jane Lynch) in the third episode of the current final season that she was diagnosed with gender dysphoria and would go about the process of transitioning. Now, an image of Coach Beiste returning as a man has been revealed, via People here.

Sporting a dress shirt, tie and some facial hair, Jones' appearance is quite different than what Glee fans are used to. Jones spoke with People about the storyline, and how the cast and crew do not recognize her at first.

"People walk by me and I forget that I'm in [the hair and makeup to make me look like a man]," Jones said. "I'll say, 'Hey.' And they'll say, 'Hi.' And then a few second later, they'll run back, 'Oh my God! Dot!' It's awesome."

As for the storyline itself, Jones admitted that she was slightly hesitant after learning of Coach Beiste's desire to transition, considering the character of a straight tomboy she's built up over the past four seasons. However, when she received the script for that episode, she said "I was, like, 'Oh my God. This is amazing.'"

The actress revealed that she received "thousands of tweets from people" after the episode aired.

"I was crying," she added. "Members of the transgender community were saying, 'I never thought I'd see myself on TV. You have no idea what this means to me. Now, maybe people will get it.'"

Coach Beiste, who is now going by Sheldon, will return to McKinley High in Friday night's episode of Glee.

Glee airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
