The Mindy Project took an absurd turn last week when Mindy Lahiri discovered she was pregnant with Danny's baby.

Mindy Kaling Talks About Why She Is So Confident & Successful, 'I Refuse To See Myself As An Underdog'

Mindy Kaling opened up to Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday on the decision to have her character become pregnant amid the success in her career and decision to move in with her boyfriend, Danny.

Mindy Lahiri, in the show, is a career-driven, independent minority woman who has been breaking stereotypes for the length of the series, and apparently viewers are worried about how this unplanned pregnancy will tarnish that reputation.

According to her interview, Mindy is going to struggle with breaking the news to Danny.

"All of next week's episode is Mindy's challenge to tell Danny. It's incredibly funny and poignant. It's one of our best episodes, called "Dinner At The Castellanos," she said.

A big question in fans' minds is whether this is going to impact her decision to open a practice in San Francisco.

"The pregnancy actually motivates Mindy more, professionally. That is something I observed to be true of a lot of women I know. It gives Mindy even more reason to succeed," Kaling said.

Kaling addressed the worried fans during the interview that are concerned that the unplanned pregnancy is going to affect the show.

"I know people were worried when Danny and Mindy got together, but I think that the show just got more complicated and deepened our understanding of the characters. This is like that only better, because it's like Mindy and Danny are collaborating on the most worthy project now. Parenting brings out sides in them we have not seen, and we get to learn more about their families as a result," she said.

The Mindy Project airs Tuesdays at 9:30pm ET on Fox.
