Ilyasah Shabazz Malcolm X: Daughter Of Late Civil Rights Leader Opens Up On Her Father 50 Years After His Death [VIDEO]
It's officially been 50 years since the assassination of civil rights leader Malcolm X.
On Friday, CBS released an interview with Ilyasah Shabazz, the third of Malcolm's six daughters. She talked about a number of wonderful things that her father had done as well as how tragic it was when his life was cut short at the age of 39.
Shabazz called her father "a man of great compassion, of integrity, a man who is being responsible for not only his people but his country."
She then mentioned how Malcolm had done everything he could to bring goodness to the world.
"He was only is his 20s when the world learned about him and 39 when he was killed- a short time in his life to have made such an enormous impact, not only in this country but around the world," the 52-year-old said. "He was working all the time, looking for solutions to the human condition that would oppress its fellow brother, and ultimately looking for the oneness in humanity."
Malcolm X was killed on February 21, 1965 when he was shot to death at a rally of followers in a ballroom in Washington Heights.
Shabazz also mentioned that her father reacted when it came to nonviolent protesters.
"I think that most times when we talk about Malcolm X that we forget about the social climate that was there," she said. "You know, being nonviolent protesters having fire extinguishers and the law against them, and so my father had a reaction to that."
