The defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants will face off against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night in what should be a very intense match up. Carolina QB Cam Newton will bring his talented offense up against Jason Pierre-Paul and New York's intimidating defenders.

After a shaky Week 1, Carolina's offense reignited in Week 2, as they were victorious against the New Orleans Saints by a 35-27 margin. Newton returned to his usual form by passing for 256 yards and completing 70% of his throws. The Carolina star also rushed for a team leading 71 yards.

Although the 23-year-old QB is off to a semi-slow start overall in his sophomore season, many are predicting a huge performance against the Giants. The 23-year-old is expected to be up to his usual antics by running the football.

A solid rushing game by Newton will test the Giants inconsistent defense, who must also worry about the star's passing ability.

After losing in an upset in the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, New York pulled out a comeback win to overcome the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 41-34 in Week 2. The key victory featured QB Eli Manning passing for 510 yards. However, the Carolina defense will be another big test for their offense, which will be without the injured Ahmed Bradshaw and Hakeem Nicks.

Considered one of the best in the NFL, New York's defense has not played up to its expectations. They've given up a slew of big plays in 2012 and only have a miniscule four sacks this season. Although it is still early in the year, the defense has not shown the same physical presence that they once did.

The Carolina Panthers vs. New York Giants will begin at 8:20 PM ET on Thursday, Sept. 20th on the NFL Network.
