The star opened up on what it was like dating a much older guy as a teenager.
On Monday, US Weekly reported on behalf of the print version of Cosmopolitan that Lizzie McGuire star, Hilary Duff, dished on her relationship with Joel Madden in the April issue.
During her interview with the number-one women's magazine in the country, the actress talked about being in a "serious" relationship at a young and vulnerable age.
The newly-single-mother-to-one said of her then-boyfriend, Joel Madden, "I had a 26-year-old boyfriend [from age 16 to 19] so everyone can make their own assumptions about what I was doing."
Though her comment is vague, it does leave her fans thinking they were doing more than just kissing.
She also opened up about how she did a "massive friend cleanse" following the breakup from Madden.
"At 19, I did a massive friend cleanse. That was really hard, to sit down with people and say 'We can't be friends anymore.' They were like 'That's f-ked up; you're a bitch.' But having a good reputation was important to me. That's not to say I didn't screw up and do little naughties here and there," Duff said.
When asked if she ever had an "eff buddy," Duff revealed: "I've enjoyed myself. I think everyone should have something where you know it's not exactly what you're looking for but you just have a wicked good time. That was freeing for me and a bit of an awakening. It's fun to have a secret."
After becoming a child Disney star, Duff had to struggle with society's perception of her as she grew up.
"I don't have to prove to people that I'm an adult now. I am an adult. It's frustrating to be put in a box, but I never needed to wild out to show that I'm grown-up," she said.
