It's long been an urban legend that there are alligators in the sewers of New York, but recent appearances show they prefer Long Island parking lots.

For the second day in a row, police have found one of the scaly reptiles in Long Island, raising concerns over the reason for their mysterious appearance.  This brings the total to three alligators found in under a week, according to the NY Daily News.

A 3-to-4 foot alligator was found outside a Baldwin, New York Pathmark supermarket wandering around the parking lot on Wednesday. Police subdued the creature and Nassau County Emergency Services Unit took it away.

Some residents in Long Island are on edge about having the alligators in their neighborhood.

"I think it's horrible. Scary and horrible," said one citizen. However, not everyone is as fazed by the appearance of the alligators. Another person reported to CBS News, "Nothing surprises me anymore."

The latest gator wasn't the first found outside the Pathway supermarket. On Tuesday night, a shopper walking to his car noticed an alligator walking the lot.

The first incident where an alligator was found took place last Friday when one of the creatures was on a lawn of a Mastic Beach home. The homeowner was able to get the 2-foot alligator in a plastic container and took it to a pet shop. The gator was eventually moved to Jungle Bob's in Centereach.

The latest alligators caught in Long Island are going to be shipped down south to live in a Florida sanctuary.

Authorities suspect that the alligators are being dropped off by an unknown suspect. There's a reward of $2,000 for any information on the person responsible, according to the Nassau County SPCA.
