True Detective fans just lost one of their primary sources for news on the show's upcoming season.

Real-Life Porn Stars Take Part In Orgy Sequence On 'True Detective'

It appears that the True Detective Twitter account which had been considered official by most fans was suspended this week for allegedly being a fraudulent account.

Viewers over at the fan site True Detective Rumors believe that perhaps it was HBO which decided to make a move against the Twitter page, which up until now had been considered the only real social media page for the crime drama.

Why HBO Might Be Lying About The Storyline For Season 2 Of 'True Detective'

So did the account break a rule which resulted in suspension? Or is HBO merely trying to limit the number of fake accounts out there?

The series, kept tightly under wraps by creator Nic Pizzolatto, has never been very big on social media. In fact, even its stars have been known to stay off the grid.

The suspension of this account means even less news on the series this month, though this might change soon. Fans are hopefully that HBO will increase marketing as the season premiere draws closer. Even though the network has yet to confirm a date for the show's return, many fans believe the series will be taking over True Blood's old summer slot.

The program's second installment is set to star Vince Vaughn (career criminal Frank Semyon), Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro), Rachel McAdams (Detective Ani Bezzerides), and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh). Pizzolatto has penned all of the episodes, with Fast and Furious alum Justin Lin directing the premiere.

True Detective will return on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
