After smashing into a tree on Monday morning, a car was sliced in half, killing four 18-year-old passengers in West Hempstead, NY. The 17-year-old driver, who only possessed a learner's permit, was taken to a hospital. The tragedy reportedly occurred at roughly 4 a.m. on the westbound side of the Southern State Parkway. Some of the victims' personal items, such as backpacks, were said to be witnessed amidst the wreckage.

Debris, glass and other pieces of the vehicle were scattered along the wooded area that was parallel to a neighborhood street. Both the front and rear parts of the automobile were taken away separate on a flatbed truck and transported from the scene.

According to the Huffington Post, Amy Buchanan, who resides on Taylor Road, which is about 50 yards from where the Subaru crashed, spoke about the loud noise that awoke her.

"Just a loud boom" she said.

Buchanan also stated that some of the other neighbors said that they saw somebody wondering around the disturbing wreckage, which most likely was the surviving vehicle operator.

New York State Police later identified Joseph Beer of Queens as the driver. However, the four deceased passengers of the horrific accident have yet to be identified. Law enforcement officials say that the late crash victims were tossed from the car after Beer failed to recognize a sudden curve in the road and careened into the nearby woods.

Buchanan mentioned that the gruesome scene wasn't the first accident that had occurred in that vicinity.

"I've lived here for 10 years and there has been an accident almost in that exact spot every year, but never as one as horrific as this."

The Oct. 8 ordeal led to the roadway closing that lasted over five hours on the Columbus Day holiday until it reopened shortly before 10 A.M.
