Lavigne rang in her 30th birthday last fall by jet-setting to Las Vegas with her friends, but she didn't feel quite right and doctors couldn't seem to pinpoint what was wrong. Apparently, she had been feeling sick for months.

"I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed," she said. "My friends asked, 'What's wrong?' I didn't know."

After feeling lethargic and lightheaded for months, she finally got diagnoses with a severe case of Lyme disease.

"I had no idea a bug bite could do this," said Lavigne. "I was bedridden for five months."

She speculated that she was bit by a tick a few months prior.

"I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move," she said. "I thought I was dying."

To help her recover, her mom moved in to help take care of her while her husband, Chad Kroeger, stepped in when he could during his tour with Nickelback.

"There were definitely times I couldn't shower for a full week because I could barely stand," Lavigne said. "It felt like having all your life sucked out of you."
