In a recent interview with Collider, Furious 7 director James Wan talked about making the movie, and also dished about the original ending which they had to change after Paul Walker's death.

Furious 8 To Be Set In New York City?

According to Wan the original climax imbibed a long term vision for the movie, set the ending up for sequels. But after Walker's death Furious 7 rightfully veered in a different direction, and wholly assumed the role of a tribute to the late actor, who played the part of Brian O'Connor in the films.

Wan stated that the original version "served a different purpose," which was obviously going to offer a smooth segue for Furious 8. The director went on to also give the studio its due for appreciating how the movie's plot would take a complete overhaul and essentially become about Walker.

"The original ending of Furious 7 was setting up, you know, the bigger world of where the Fast and Furious franchise could go into," Wan said. "And that's obviously very smart of them to think so. But when the tragedy happened, all of that became irrelevant. So it did not matter anymore, all of that stuff. And to the studio's credit, they did not push for that. They realized how important it was to make a movie that finishes and that just outright is a tribute to Paul Walker. So I give them a lot of credit for being bigger than that and going along with this ending that is the right ending to go with."

Furious 7 hit theaters on April 3, 2015.
