It was recently revealed that a whole bunch of writers were being hired to brainstorm new ideas for Transformers 5 and other sequels or spinoffs, and it seems like the franchise will be headed in a brand new direction. This could put a dent in fans' wishes to see Megan Fox and Shia La Beouf return with the next movie.

Transformers 5 Sticking To 2016 Release Date?

Since last year, as the state of the sequel to Age of Extinction was in a state of limbo, and there was no official word about if the cast for the new phase was coming back, rumors about the the stars from the original, Fox and La Beouf coming back were rife.

The rumor was bolstered by Fox expressing casual interest in making a cameo in the next Transformers film. But neither Fox nor La Beouf showed serious inclination. There was also talk of the franchise rewinding to the style of the older films which added fuel to the speculation. But now as Mark Wahlberg confirmed he is definitely coming back, and production is starting soon, we know that the lead reigns remain with him. Also, the motivation with a fresh writing team helmed by Akiva Goldsman, who will be collaborating with director Michael Bay, seems to be wanting to take the franchise into a new realm, which would mean featuring the older cast would make little sense.

While some recent reports are still going strong with the rumors, it would be safe to assume that Fox and La Beouf aren't being considered for Transformers 5.

Transformers: Age of Extinction hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
